In the Darkness with The Drin

Going slightly North for this one…

I discovered Cincinnati’s Feel it Records several years ago by way of Goner Records. Feel It started off as an imprint in Virginia, releasing albums by The Cowboys, Sweeping Promises, and The Toms. Then, in 2020, they relocated to Cincinnati, opened a store, and ramped up their releases. Since then, they’ve developed a sizable following and released some great stuff (including Optic Sink’s most recent album, Lucky Number).

At the moment, they’re promoting an impending release by a Cincinnati band called The Drin, and the first single really grabbed me by the collar. It’s a hi-hat and horn laced groove called “Haven’t Lived it Yet” that feels aligned with the warped moods you might encounter via Crystal Stilts or Brian Jonestown Massacre. Brooding but hopeful, distant yet close. It’s spilling with contradictions and that’s what makes it so damn memorable.

The album, I Lost My Way for Centuries, comes out on September 18. In the meantime, get a taste below.
