Optic Sink and Ultra Lights Take Over Bham

We don’t produce many live shows, so, when we do, that means it’s something special. 

Next Friday, September 11, we’ll host Ultra Lights (Atlanta) and Optic Sink (Memphis) at Mom’s Basement in Birmingham, Alabama, for a night of Southern outsider music. Also, our pal Baby Boy Parker will be spinning records throughout the night. A stacked bill, for sure.

Ultra Lights are currently riding high with their new indie rock opus, Pleasure’s All Yours, which has received praise from Pitchfork and The New York Times. Killer guitar riffs, nice hooks, and zero filler. Chunklet Industries (aka Henry Owings) released the record and has done a fine job of getting it to the people.

Memphis’ Optic Sink delivers distinct noir pop infused with breakbeats, unrelenting bass lines, and Natalie Hoffman’s one-of-a-kind voice. Their sound can prompt both dancing and disorientation, which is a perfect fit for a subterranean dive bar like Mom’s Basement. 

This’ll probably be the last time you can catch these bands in such an intimate setup (for $10!) so make it a point to come hang out. Poster by Baby Boy Parker.
